Shad Valley

Shad Valley is a month long summer program for over 700 students from across Canada and the world.  This opportunity is open to all students in grades 10, 11 and 12.

Students stay in residence at various universities across Canada.  During the month students participate in a wide variety of STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, art and math) based lectures, workshops, projects and activities that will challenge them to think outside the box and make interdisciplinary connections.  Speakers include university professors, business leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators.  This is a highly competitive program that is an excellent opportunity for any student interested in science and engineering.

*Shad Valley offers a number of university scholarships.  Any student who has attended one of their programs is eligible to apply.

Date:  July 1st – 27th, 2018

Location:  Various Universities across Canada

Online Application Deadline:  November 20th

*Please note:  the application is quite involved and requires, among other things, official documents from the school, a letter of reference, and an essay to be written by the student.  Please ensure you allow yourself and the school enough time to get the required documents together if this program is of interest to you.  Acceptance into the program is highly competitive, so it is important that time is spent on the application.  There is no fee to apply.

University of Toronto - Mississauga is hosting a Grade 10/11 Information Night on Thursday, April 27, 2017. We strongly encourage all to attend especially families of grade 11 students. It is never too early to begin the post secondary research phase.
This event will provide students with the opportunity to engage with current UTM students to learn about university life and their experiences in a fun and interactive way. Parents/guardians will learn how to support their student throughout the university process, understand the costs associated with a university education, and learn about the resources available to help ensure that all needs are being met.

Brain Bee

With so many amazing enrichment opportunities out there, it’s often hard to chose which ones to attend.  If you are interested in psychology, health sciences, or just interested in learning about how the brain functions, this day of fun and competition is for you.

One of our own students placed 2nd overall in this event at McMaster University last year!  I’m hoping this year brings more representation from OT.

Who:   Any student from grade 9 - 12

What:   A day of competition against other local high school students, to see who has learned the most about the brain. All questions will be taken from ‘Neuroscience:  Science of the Brain’

Where:  McMaster University

When:  Friday April 7th, 2017

For more information visit their website or see Mrs. Tummon in room 184.  Please let me know if you would like to attend.  If we have enough interest I will look into ordering a bus to get everyone there and back.
